Cycling Around Tulips Field (English Post)

“Just living is not enough…one must

have sunshine, freedom, and a little

flower” - Hans Christian Andersen

It was Spring day when the wind was breezing, the sun was shining and flowers were blooming. It was the prettiest season for me. Seems like everything was beyond amazing. It was April. When you do not have to wear a heavy jacket as in Winter or too revealing clothes as in Summer. Just wear light pants and a T-shirt with White sneaker.

Cycling is a symbol of Dutch culture. It has been considered a national symbol since 1920. We, my friends from another city in the Netherlands, decided to meet in Leiden Centraal Station at 7 in the morning. We subscribed to rent a bicycle in the Train Station. Because it was the only possible way for us instead of bring our bicycle by ourselves.

In the Tulip Field

The Tulips field was in the Lisse, a small beautiful city in the South Holland province. It is a famous sentor in the Netherlands who grows tulip bulbs. And Keukenhouf is located here. It stood between Leiden and Sassenheim. But we stopped to see a Holland flower parade in Sassenheim before going to the Tulips field.

There was a biggest flowers parade in the Netherlands. All kinds of flowers were made into severalls characters to devine the characteristic for their origin. It was so cool. There was also an instruments parade while riding a bicycle.

After we saw the flowers parade, we decided to cycling around to the Tulips field in Lisse. Actually, we cycled from Leiden Centraal to Lisse for 15 KM. It was really hard for me because as a petite woman, the bicycle that I rent was too high for me. And also most of the Dutch people cycling so fast. My struggle was real  hahahaha.

Finally after long and exhausting cycle, we had arrived in the Tulips Field. It was so breathtaking. I cannot describe how happy I was seeing such a wonderful scenary in front of us. We went to one tulip colour to another one. Red, yellow, white and many. We take a picture and group picture in tulip’s field.

In the afternoon, we are feeling hungry and went to the Sassenheim city central to eat. Lucky us, we found an Indonesian restaurant in Sassenheim. It called Layang-Layang restaurant. In english mean kite. I ordered chicken bumbu rujak, fried rice and dawet. It was delicious. We chatted a lot with the owner and the staff from the Restaurant. There is a music parade in the Sasseinhem Town Hall. Surprisingly, the marching band sang one of the Indonesian folk songs. They recognized us as Indonesian when we sang along with with. We are so happy to meet them. We said goodbye to them and cycled again to go back to Leiden Centraal. Still long way to home.

And the silly thing that happened to me is I could not be able to walk after the long cycling and made Teh Devi (one of my friends) carry me on her bicycle to her home in Hilversum because my whole body was aching. Sorry and thank you so much Teh Devi. Who I am I without you that day. I miss you. Wkwkkwkw

Note : We carried tulips from the field. They allow us to have it. Lucky us. Thank you and see you again Lisse.
