The Unexpected Snow Storm in Slovakia
“See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories. Ask for no guarantees, ask for no security.”
― Ray Bradbury
It was almost in the middle of the night when our bus stopped at one of the bus stations in Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia from Budapest. We (Yonna and I) decided to visit Bratislava as the closest city to our next destination Vienna, Austria. We planned to explore this city for a while before going to Vienna.
But before we realized that snow had fallen from the sky above us. We went inside to the station to grab our Coffee and waited for the snow to stop while looking for the bus or tram that could bring us to the city center. Before we found the tram or bus, suddenly we heard information that the bus station would close and asked us to go out. But, the saddest thing was the snow has not stopped yet. It got worse.
We went out and stood in front of the station building. We prayed that the snow would stop soon. But we were not lucky that day because suddenly rain is coming along with the snow. And we were drained and freezed. We decided to go to the BusHalte nearest. We pulled our suitcase in the thick snow and rain to the BusHalte in the middle of the night in a strange place. It was really cold and we were physically exhausted.
Tram in Bratislava, Slovakia.
We arrived at the BusHalte but the first bus would arrive 1 hour later. We almost cried. We were patiently waiting for the bus. Finally our bus has arrived. We went inside the bus to go to the city center. Not too long, we were in the city center of Bratislava. We planned to go to the Bratislava castle or the old city of Bratislava. But we got lost there and we could not find the place we were looking for. Then with all the exhausted mind, body and soul. We went back to the bus halte and decided to find a Hostel nearby because there was a snow storm.
And the worst thing was, looking for a hostel available at that time was difficult. We kept searching on the internet before we decided to go there. Finally we found a decent hostel and we were looking for an Uber to take us there. And yes we had canceled our bus ticket to Vienna because we decided to stay in Bratislava for one night.
We had arrived in the hostel but the Hostel was full. There was no room available for us. Since we were almost frozen, we asked them to permit us to stay inside the hostel to warm up our bodies. Glad that they allowed us to stay and they helped us to find the room from the Hostel nearby. Luckily we found 1 room available in the other building. We rushed to go there.
There was one bed that we shared for the night. We took off our clothes and jacket because they were drained. We slept for only 3-4 hours before we checked out at 7 AM in the morning because we will continue to our next destination to Vienna.
We took a shower and were ready to check out while looking for a bus to the Station in the city center. Glad we found a Bus to ride on. We went inside to the bus and looked around. All Bratislava was white because it was covered with snow. It was still rainy in the morning.
Mos NSP (UFO Bridge)
We arrived at the bus station and waited for the ticketing stand to open to buy a ticket to Vienna. While waiting for the bus we bought a cup of coffee and bread for breakfast. And also we went to the tourist attraction nearby. There was a UFO Bridge (Most NSP), Bratislava Castle and St. Martin’s Cathedral. We could not go to the castle because of the limited time that we had. But we took several pictures from afar.
St. Martin Cathedral & The Old Town of Bratislava
We were so thankful that we survived the snowstorm that day. Even though we were not able to explore Bratislava as we planned, but we were happy to have visited this city. See you again Slovakia. Thank you for having us there.
Sincerely,
Elviera 💙
